Girl Crushes: Liza Arietz

As far as I’m concerned, Liza Arietz has the best etsy shop ever. She’s a Portland-based designer, and she creates the most amazing garments that are “structured yet feminine, detailed yet wearable, and are created individually, not mass-produced.”

I would love to exclusively buy U.S. made clothing and support independent designers. Maybe someday I can afford to do that. Until then, I’ll just have to save my pennies!

Girl Crushes: Maisie Dobbs

Ok, so Maisie Dobbs is not a REAL person. She’s a character in the delightful series by Jacqueline Winspear. I am ever so fond of these books. British female detective novels get me everytime (although Miss Marple will always be my favorite). However, my initial reason for loving these books is the cover design. Beauty!

Girl Crushes: Erin McKean

I saw this TED video on a flight to LA over the summer. (Virgin America is my favorite.)

Erin McKean is a self-proclaimed word nerd who has some great things to say about the history of the dictionary and how it has and needs to evolve to accommodate our web lives.

Girl Crushes: Roisin Murphy

I’ve been listening to Roisin Murphy a lot lately. She puts me in a good mood and makes me feel like a cool person. This video “You Know Me Better” is a year old or so, but it’s fun, cute and awesomely pretentious.

Girl Crushes: Denyse Schmidt

Oh, Denyse. You’ve done it again. Maybe someday I will work up the guts (and the patience) to actually try my hand at quilting. (Pattern available here.)
